My Body is Unique Tour

Posted by Anthony on 16 March 2025

Body image is one of the leading concerns for adolescents and young adults in the UK. Research has shown that in addition to impacting mental and physical health and wellbeing, negative body image can affect relationships, performance, attendance and the community spirit of schools, universities and workplaces.

The Succeed Foundation is running an awareness raising campaign about body image and the role that friends and the community can play in fostering healthy body image. We are in schools and universities from the 19th to the 23rd of March.

Dr Phillippa Diedrichs is giving interactive talks focusing on how beauty ideals have evolved throughout history, the impact that pursuit of unrealistic beauty ideals can have on health and well-being, and she is offering some practical solutions to improving body image in our everyday lives.

  • These talks will form part of the Succeed Foundation’s campaign to raise awareness about  the body image, including who it affects and what are the causes, consequences and solutions to improving women’s body image.
  • There will be a brief discussions about how beauty ideals have changed throughout history and how pursuit of the unrealistic thin ideal of feminine beauty that is dominant in Western culture today often leads to distress and dissatisfaction among women.
  • The main focus of the talks will be a discussion of practical strategies that women can use to improve their own and others’ body image, and in doing so improve their health and well-being.

During our visits to schools and universities we are also running surveys looking into the demand for body image programmes.
